A Commentary on the Diagnostic Systems of Personality Disorders: An Investigation Using Latent Profile Analysis

For her honours thesis, Eunice used latent profile analysis to test whether personality-disorder symptoms naturally cluster into meaningful groups, applying the method across independent Australian and North American samples. Consistent higher-order profiles emerged in both, alongside sample-specific clusters — evidence that empirical, data-driven classification can complement both categorical and dimensional diagnostic systems, while finer trait constellations remain needed for individual-level understanding.
