Based at the Australian National University, we build cutting-edge assessment tools, investigate dimensional models of personality, and pioneer the ethical use of AI in mental health.
How we work
Open by default
Every instrument we develop is open-source and freely available — full items, scoring guides, and psychometric documentation, not just a paper describing them.
Measurement first
Good psychological science depends on precise measurement. We treat psychometric rigour — IRT, CFA, network analysis — as foundational, not an afterthought.
Theory meets practice
Our research is grounded in real clinical and educational practice, so what we build is meant to be used, not just published.

Meta-Science & Idiographic Methods
Open data, statistical-power practice, and person-specific (idiographic) measurement — reorienting psychological research toward within-person structure and reproducibility, not just group averages.
Dimensional Personality & Clinical
Dimensional models of personality and psychopathology (DSM-5 AMPD, ICD-11, HiTOP) and the clinical assessment tools that translate them into practice — centred on vulnerability, resilience, and closing the research-to-clinic gap.
Large Language Models in Psychological Science
Evidence-based, ethical use of large language models in psychological research and mental-health care — from auditing the research literature itself to modelling personality structure and understanding real-world behaviour. The newest of the lab's directions: still more active projects than publications.
Our open-science commitment
Psychological assessment tools are only as useful as they are accessible. Every scale we develop — full item sets, scoring algorithms, reliability and validity evidence, factor structure, and normative data — is published in our open Scales repository, free for research and clinical use. We publish our code alongside our papers wherever we can — see our Projects page for the tools and codebases we build along the way.
